THREE BIG DAYS FOR HAWAII’S TOP DOGS
The oldest AKC Kennel Club west of the Mississippi, the 107-year-old Hawaiian Kennel Club presents a three-day series of AKC All-Breed dog shows over Labor Day weekend. The shows will be held at the Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall, Saturday and Sunday, August 31 and September 1, when the Club presents its 177th and 178th all-breed dog shows — and on Monday when it sponsors the Valley Isle Kennel Club of Maui’s all-breed show.
The Hawaiian Kennel Club dog shows are the Island’s largest shows featuring some 300 of Hawaii’s show dogs representing more than 60 different breeds. The breed with the greatest number of entries is the Golden Retrievers (23), followed closely by the Shetland Sheepdog entries. These are entertaining and educational events for the entire family (except your pets – only dogs registered in the show are permitted in the Exhibition Hall).
See Hawaii’s top show dogs all in one place, in air-conditioned comfort. Judging each day will be Edd Bivin from Ft. Worth, Texas, Monica Canestrini from Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Charles Trotter from Carmel, California, and Keith George Brown from Christchurch, New Zealand.
The sporting dogs, hounds, working and herding dogs, terriers, toys, and the non-sporting breeds will be judged each day beginning at 9:30 a.m., Saturday and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday and Monday; with group judging beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, and 12:15 on Sunday and Monday. Best in Show follows the Group Judging each day. These are three separate shows with three Best in Show winners.
Enjoy ringside seats while you compare your winner picks with that of the judges. All-day admission to each Hawaiian Kennel Club All Breed Dog Show is $5 for adults, free for children under 12 with an adult. Admission is free for the Valley Isle Kennel Club of Maui’s all-breed show on Labor Day.
